The premiere wine region in Western Canada runs between Kelowna and Osoyoos (British Columbia) along highway 97. With over 120 vineyards, it makes the perfect place to spend a few days (or a few weeks) indulging in some Canadian wine.
There is a wide range of wineries from small, family run vineyards to high end estates and everything in between. The region also has numerous yearly wine festivals and tours available, most of which are in the summer months between June and September.
Here are some wineries that stood out:
Hester Creek Estate Winery
Located between Osoyoos and Oliver (the “Golden Mile”), they have a beautiful tasting room, bistro, patio and grassy picnic area. Their Pinot Gris, Cabernet Franc and Merlot are great.
Located just north of Kelowna, they are a small winery with a lovely picnic area and free tastings. Their white wines stand out, particularly the Bacchus and Snow Tropics Vidal.
Gehringer Brothers Estate Winery
Located across from Hester Creek, they are one of the original wineries in the South Okanagan. Most famous for their Riesling but their Ehrenfelser is also worth a try if you are looking for something different.
