Stampede is the time of year when Calgary becomes vibrant with activity, and the streets become filled with pop-up pancake breakfasts. Hungry city dwellers and visitors alike, line up to sample the staple Western breakfast – pancakes, syrup, and sausages. Although these free breakfasts satisfy most, the health conscious Calgarians among us are demanding more from their annual flapjack breakfast.
Over the years the demand for gluten-free options has grown and the city now hosts two gluten free and allergen-conscious breakfasts. Here are two options for enjoying a Stampede breakfast while on a gluten-free diet:
Wendy T’s Annual Gluten Free Stampede Breakfast
Wendy T’s Annual Gluten Free Stampede Breakfast is the original and longest running gluten free breakfast in Calgary. The event is hosted by the Calgary Celiac Association and is held at the Marda Loop Community Centre. The is sponsored by Kinnikinnick Foods, Spolumbo’s, Judy G, and Community Natural Foods.

Amber Approved Stampede Breakfast
Amber Approved has been running a stampede breakfast for a number of years now, and focus on gluten, sugar and dairy-free foods. The event is held at the beautiful Hotel Arts. The menu includes Stampede favourites with a healthy twist, such as gluten–free pancakes, nitrite-free sausage, free range eggs. They also offer other delicious options like fruit smoothies, organic juice shots, infused waters and more.
